Speak Up Guardian Encourage a positive culture in your organisation.

What Is Speaking Up?

We are listening

Freedom to Speak Up (F2SU) is about encouraging a positive culture in your organisation where people feel they can speak up, have their voices heard and have their suggestions acted upon.

In short, it’s about speaking up about anything that gets in the way of doing a great job.

Here are some examples:

  • unsafe patient care or conditions
  • unsafe working conditions
  • inadequate induction or training for staff
  • inadequate response to a reported patient safety incident
  • suspicions of fraud
  • bullying towards patients or colleagues, or a bullying culture

However, we recognise that, sometimes, speaking up about a concern, or trying to get your idea heard at work, isn’t always easy.

We want to change this. As a valued member of the NHS we want you to feel confident that you can share your views or concerns either anonymously or ‘named.’ Therefore, a Freedom to Speak Up Guardian has been introduced to help you if you feel your voice is not being heard.

Your guardian’s name is Helen; she will discuss your concerns in an off-record discussion that is strictly confidential. She’s non-judgemental and friendly.
